Foreign Good Caiye Maple Tree Resources Introduction And Adaptation Research

In this paper,9 varieties of maples that were introduced from Oregon, U.S. were observed. Maple study was performed on the basis of the comprehensive observation and investigation in terms of climate, moisture, soil and other habitat conditions of the introduction site during 2007-2009,in experinmental bases of Jinan Landscape Scientific Institute. The characteristics of phenology, the presentation of leaves color, and growth rhythm of colorful maple trees are mastered. The performance of over-summering, over-wintering and pest outbreaks and control are studied in the cultivated areas. All of these provide theoretical and practical foundation for the colorful maple large-scale cultivation.Tissue Culture Propagation techniques of Acer rubrum were discussed in this study in order to provide basic and technical support for the rapid propagation and popularization and application of colorful maple trees in introduction areas. Main results are as follows:1.The feasibility analysis of introduction shows that the colorful maple trees will be introduced and it is possible to survive in introduced areas chronically. Comparing ecological factors of the original region with that of the introduced aera, it is found that the over-wintering situation of introduced trees should be concerned.2.Phenological observations show that the blossom phase of each variety is different and some varieties are non-flowering. The bud time of 'Autumn Blaza'and'Atropurpureum', about in the last ten days of March, are earlier, while that of 'Armstrong' is about in the first ten days of April as the last one. In autumn, the leaves of 'Autumn Flame' change most early, and the color period of 'Brandywine'is longest. The leaves of Acer platanoides cv.'Crimson King' and Acer pseudoplatanus cv. 'Atropurpureum'are colorful all the year round.3.These colorful maple varieties are middle fast-growing trees. The height and breast diameter of trees begin to increase in April, peak in mid-July, and almost stop growing after mid-September. The trees sprout twice one year. The quantity of height growth is maximum in summer.In decreasing order, the growth rate of the colorful trees is 'Autumn Flame', 'brandywin','Marmo','Somerset','Red Sunset','Armstrong','Atropurpureum' and'Crimson King'4. The results of over-wintering survey show that trees of different ages have different cold resistence. The results of the over-summering observation show that most introduced varietis can grow well in the summer, except for' Atropurpureum' and 'Crimson King'.5. In case of continuous cloudy weather in autumn, the presentation of leaf color is not good. But in the continuous fine weather, if the night temperature is below 15℃and the temperature difference between day and night is greater than 8℃, the leaves of introduced maple trees begin to change color, and 'Autumn Blaze' is the first. All the introduced maple trees are suitable for a wide range of soil.6.In the nine varieties,'Red Sunset'is damaged by the beetles most severely, and even died;'Crimson King' is damaged by Cnidocampa flavescens badly.7. Through the comprehensive analysis of the leaf color and growth performance, five varieties are better including'Autumn Flame','Brandywine', 'Somerset','Autumn blaze'and'Armstrong'.
