The Chu Nom Script (CNS), a semi-phonetic and semi-semantic writing system, was created by the Vietnamese people to record their own ethnic language. It made use of Chinese characters as well as script coined following Chinese. It was invented under the long-term struggling of Hanization, the Vietnamese had an urgent need to have their own script. Awareness of going away Chinese assimilation, independence of linguistic documents of the nation fostered Vietnamese ancestors to uphold creative sprits, so that on the basis of Chinese characters they built their own unique one, which was used to write the voice of nation. The research on Chu Nom focused on the methods of making the CNS which was investigated based on the shape, sound and meaning. I divided the methods into two categories.First of all, I explained how the Chinese characters were broadcasted in Vietnam and how they were borrowed to make the Chu Nom Script. Studying the Vietnamese CNS is the study of the result of the dissemination, and the study of the Vietnamized Chinese "characters is the onset of studying CNS to learn about the rebus method of the CNS.Secondly, I explained the relationship between the CNS, invented by the Vietnamese people, and the structure of the Chinese characters. Because the CNS was evolved the Chinese characters, thus, it closely connected to the components of the Chinese characters. The phonetic, ideogramic and ideogrammic-compound scripts were borrowed from the Chinese characters. Traditionally, there were six ways ("liushu") to make Chinese characters, yet there were only four ways ("sishu") for the CNS. In spite, the six ways and the four ways were not exactly the same. The CNS borrowed the conventional Chinese characters to make the similar scripts for the CNS. That is, the CNS was the secondary version of the Chinese characters. Nonetheless, the CNS still carried its uniqueness and did not mixed with the Chinese characters. The invention of the CNS won vigorous support of the Vietnamese people. Not only did it make the Vietnamese langauge become a unique one, but also it demonstrated the independent spirit of the Vietnanese people.
