ShUing is not only the source of the brilliant Chinese literature, but also the diamond in the treasure-house of the world's literature. In terms of methodology, the western scholars had a lot of tries at the translation studies of ShUing, such as the comparison between Chinese and western literature. The thesis makes a deep study on three English versions of ShUing from the perspective of Polysystem theory and adopts He Yuanjian & Wei Zhiqiang's second model—different translators' versions of the same original. In this thesis, the author will compare the three versions of ShUing, translated by Yang Xianyi & Gladys B. Tayler, Ezra Pound', James Legge, analyze the characteristics and rules of them, and attempt to explain the reasons for all special phenomena existed in the process of the translation to make a diachronological survey. The goals of this thesis are to find the decisions made by the translators during the translation process and predict the acceptance of different translation versions in the target culture on the basis of describing the translation strategies of each translator without the personal judgment whether they are good or bad. |
