On The Studies Of Shijing In Siming Area In Southern Song Dynasty

Because of its unique local characteristics and high academic degree, the Research ofShijing in Siming (Ningbo) area in Southern Song Dynasty played an important role in the SongSchool of classical literature. Scholars in that time saved many precious reference and writingsfor us. However, Studies of Shijing in this area received little attention as its research resultshave not been list systematically. This paper is focused on studying those famous scholars andtheir writings of Siming area as the representive to reveal the whole academic condition andvalue in that region.First, we discussed about the features of Studies of Shijing in the early time of the SouthernSong Dynasty. Cao Cuizhong showed his speculative thinking in his book called Fang Zhai ShiShuo. Being suspicious about earlier rectify collations, Cao Cuizhong redefined the meanings ofthe poems in phonological and exegetical aspects. His textual research achievements werehighly evaluated by other scholars. Weng Yong Xian Ping, which was written by Yuan Wen,showed his profound skills of Xiao Xue, a kind of traditional Chinese linguistics. His originalexplanations towards the words of Shijing were beneficial to the later study.Second, we talked about the foundation and influences of the two teach pedigrees ofStudies of Shijing in Siming area. Shu Lin and Yang Chen, who were on behalf of Fenghuateach pedigree, taught about annotations of Shijing. This pedigree was featured by traditionalstudy of Shijing. The latter teach pedigree created by Yu Duanchen, who came from YinCounty, taught about Zhu Xi’s Studies of Shijing. This pedigree was featured byargumentations and textual research. The two teach pedigrees had greatly improved the numberof the researchers as well as the academic level of the Studies of Shijing in Siming area.Third, we employed two members of the Neo-Confucian School of Mind, Yang Jian andYuan Xie, to find out the way that the School of Mind studied Shijing. Jie Zhai Mao Shi JingYan Jiang Yi, which was written by Yuan Xie, was aimed to talk about the way of governing bystudying Shijing rather than to learn Shijing literally. Compared to Yuan Xie, Yang Jian paidmore attention to exegesis and textual research. His book, called Ci Hu Shi Zhuan, is a typicalworks of the School of Mind, which was mainly talking about the natural law and the mentalactivities of human beings. Fourth, we focused on Huang Zhen and Wang Yinglin to analyze their research. HuangZhen adopted Zhu Xi’s methods in doing research, such as to distinguish right from wrongwhen reading Maoshixu and the earlier annotations about Shijing. His practical learning attitudehad rectified the ills of Zhu Xi’s disciples in the later generation. Wang Yinglin adopted the wayZhu Xi used to do textual research, by which he finished the first Ji Yi of San Jia PoemCollection, as well as the first geographical works about Shijing called Shi Di Li Kao. In thehistory of Studies of Shijing, Wang enjoyed a high reputation and served as a link between pastand future.To sum up, it is worthy of recognition that the Research of Shijing in Siming area do hasits academic values and positive impact on Studies of Shijing.
