Hexibaojuan is a kind of talking and singing story text, spreading in most area of Hexi Corridor, which includes Wuwei, Zhangye, Jiuquan, Jiayuguan and so on. The verse's form uses five-word, seven-word and ten-word, one person sings, the others people follow. The prose part is read out or explained by scroll reader alone. Its origin may go upstream to the sermon for the people in Tang Dynasty. The tonality uses the traditional names of tunes to sing in volumes, like"waves washing the sand","crying just before dawn"and so on, but mostly uses the folk ditty based on the number of words. The content of the story is mostly about persuading people to do good things and to be obedient, and the thought of"good and evil have their own rewards". Based on the field investigation on Hexibaojuan, the article depicts the geographical environment, shape of Baojuan, and the names of the tunes used in Hexibaojuan. Besides, explain the foundation of culture of Hexi baojuan by consultation of relate literatures. The discourse can be divide into five parts:The first chapter is to definite and illustrate the related concepts.The second chapter discusses the origin of Hexibaojuan. Study from the following two aspects: Hexibaojuan'development and its cultural background; writing style and form of singing and reading. The conclusion is that Hexibaojuan is the carry-over of folk religion sutras of Ming and Qing Dynasties.The third chapter, is to describe the present situation of Hexibaojuan, explained the background of the produce of Hexibaojuan and its development mainly from the regional geography as well as history culture, religious belief characteristic and so on.The fourth chapter, starting from the research of present situation of tunes names of Hexibaojuan up to now, argumented the questions which existed in the research of the tune names of Hexibaojuan, and listed most of common names of the tunes in the Hexibaojuan.In the fifth chapter, two representative tune names, which is named "To cry Before down" and "Wave Washes Sand" were chosen from the numerous tune names in Hexibaojuan, investigated their origination, what's more, research was made on the"Hefo"with special characteristic in the Hexibaojuan, and seek its source.Finally, makes the judgment of the Hexibaojuan's cultural value: In a long history from the Ming Dynasty until now, there is no doubt that Hexibaojuan is playing a positive role in educating people and spiritual entertainment through singing and reading stories and traditional tune names, whereas because of its limitation in such content and form and other aspects, that the singing of Hexibaojuan tend to decline is the wave of the future.
