| Buddhism has a long history in China. From the later Western Han Dynasty to the present,there has been more than two thousand years. With the development of society,Buddhism positively melts into the society with its harmonious spirit,and tries to adjust itself to society. Today, in the background of building a harmonious socialist society, the thought of"Humanistic Buddhism"which is put forwarded in the beginning of the last century,is developing vigorously,and has already become the mainstream of Buddhism."Humanistic Buddhism"perseveres in the notion of"profit our country , benefit our people", encouraging buddhists to participate in the construction of a harmonious society of our country (the temporal"Pure Land"),making great contribution to social stability and people's well-beings.Also, building a harmonious society can provide a broad space and a good opportunity for the reform and development of Buddhism.Therefore, in the new historical period, how to have a better effect of Buddhism on building a harmonious society,has become an important issue to us.This article has used some methods, such as the literature analysis,applies theory to reality, interdisciplinary research and so on. Author analyze and discuss the suject in the logical order of"Defining the concept","Seeking common ground of the two","Exploring the status and role of Humanistic Buddhism"and"Finding the approaches",focusing on the analysis of Humanistic Buddhism's positive role in China's political, economic, cultural and social dimensions: maintaining the unity of our nation, promoting the world's peace; participating in the construction of economy, harmonizing the sustaining development; promoting the amalgamation and development of culture, and promoting the spiritual civilization; maintaining the stability of society , promoting the harmony of society.Author further explores the ways and means to harmonizes Buddhism and society,with a view to play a more active role of Humanistic Buddhism in the process of building a harmonious society. |
