Policy toward Japan is an important component of the U.S. global strategy and Asian strategy,which involves the U.S. vital interests in the Asia-Pacific region. After World War II,the United States and the Soviet Union changed from war allies into the post-war opponent,with the intensification of US-Soviet conflicts,policy toward Japan was gradually incorporated into the orbit of the U.S. strategy of containment. To the Eisenhower Administration,the world situation and the Asian situation had undergone dramatic changes,Japan's domestic Anti-Americanism and the mood for independence were growing. U.S. policy toward Japan was facing new challenges. In this case, Eisenhower led the U.S. government to do a certain amount of adjustment for its policy toward Japan.The present paper is made up of four parts, namely the introduction, the body, the conclusion and references, in which the body is divided five chapters.The first chapter briefly outlines the elements of Truman Administration's Japan policy, which laid the basis for Eisenhower Administration's policy toward Japan.The core chapters of this paper are from the second chapter to the fourth chapter. with the US-Soviet Cold War as the background and the international situation changes as the clues,discuss and analyse Eisenhower Administration's Japan policy of formation, adjustment and re-adjustment. Adjustment of the Eisenhower Administration's policy toward Japan proceeds from the ultimate aim of containing against China,drafts for consolidating the status of the global and maintaining the security needs of the Asia-Pacific region.The fifth chapter discusses the impact of Eisenhower Administration's policy toward Japan. Through the adjustment of policy toward Japan,Japan got on the U.S."security tank",revived the economy,enhanced international status,formed a special US-Japan alliance with the United States. The United States consolidated its strategic base in the Asia-Pacific region,reached the purpose of containing the Soviet Union and China. Because the United States policy toward Japan is partial and unfair,which strengthened the opposition between the Sino-Japanese, Sino-US relations,and continued to affect the security of the Asia-Pacific region until today.The conclusion part summaries the full text. Eisenhower Administration's policy toward Japan serves the interests of the United States, at the same time, the foreign policy which doesn't respect the sovereignty of other countries, tramples the development of nationalism arbitrarily doomes to failure.The approach of historical facts in combination with analyses is adopted in this thesis,and attempts to take roots in and development itself on the basis of the research fruits that were acquired by former researchers,elaborates well the evolution orbit of U.S. policy toward Japan,reveals how this policy that subjects to the national interests of the United States shifts.
