Research On The Origin Of Hunan Witch-boxing And Its Present Situation Of Development And Countermeasures

Witch-boxing, known as the most important one of the four famous boxings in Hunan, has its unique characteristics, and it's popular among the people in Hunan. Since Wu Bi-da came to Hunan to create the boxing in the first year(1797) of Jiaqin in Qing Dynasty, it has become the most important part of the traditional martial arts in Hunan Province. Research on the Origin of Hunan Witch-boxing and its Present Situation of Development and Countermeasures can promote Witch-boxing. Using the methods of data, interview, practice, questionnaire, investigation and logical analysis, this paper makes study on the Origin of Hunan Witch-boxing and its Present Situation of Development and Countermeasures.The results show that Witch-boxing was created by Wu Bi-da, Feng, Tang and Li are its main schools; Witch-boxing has a broad mass base in Hunan area, while the boxing theory and its value is less known, and it develops slowly. Most of people who exercise Witch-boxing are elderly men. House, community open space, parks and squares are the areas where they practice Witch-boxing, but there is no "Wu Jia Tong" among them. The content of Witch-boxing is very rich, but only Trigeminal, Qia-hanging, Tian-word, Kirin-six-elbow and Gunshu are well developed. Some parts of Witch-boxing are rarely developed and on the risk of being lost. To popularize Witch-boxing, it's necessary to make proper plans for it, to organize it well and to train more talents for it.
