Owing to the evolving of global urban network, the development of Chinas urban agglomeration and the accelerated regional integration process of the Yangtze River Delta, researches on economic links between Chinese cities are increasing in recent years and the Yangtze River Delta is one of the most often selected areas by scholars. Although many theoretical models measuring economic links between cities have been proposed, most of them are based on Spatial interaction theory which use indexes such as total economic output, city population and the distance between cities to estimate economic contact intensities between a group of cities, or select one aspect to research such as population flow, goods flow, cash flow, information flow, etc.Based on the branch networks of financial enterprises and chain commercial enterprises, the paper builds model to measure economic contact intensities between 25 cities in the Yangtze River Delta. Using this research method, the economic links in this area can be reflected more comprehensively, more objectively and consequently more truly. It provides a new method for the quantitative analysis of economic links and gives suggestions for formulating regional development policies and developing services economy in the Yangtze River Delta. The paper uses the theoretical research combines with empirical data. In the part of empirical analysis, the paper chooses enterprise network model to calculate city interlocks and interlock connectivities between sample cities, which is based on enterprises from financial industry and chain commercial industry. Then through comprehensive analysis and comparison analysis, it draws conclusions including city hierarchy division, relative status of financial industry and chain commercial industry of each city, spatial differentiation of economic links. The paper at last proposes countermeasures to strengthen economic ties in the Yangtze River Delta. In the part of theoretical analysis, the paper tests the accuracy and reliability of the results through correlation analysis with other indexes such as deposits balance of RMB and foreign currency in financial institution and total retail sales of consumer goods. The paper also analyses strengths and weaknesses of enterprise network model, in order to enrich the theory on measuring economic links between cities.
