With the development of the economy, it has become an important task for the Chinese economy to promote the ecnomic transition and industrial upgrading. In 2008, National Torism Bureau set the transformation and upgrading of tourism as a state-level strategy for tourism development in the national tourism meeting. The transformation and upgrading of tourism is vital to the health and rapid development of the tourism industry and it can enhance the quality and international competitiveness of the tourism industry. So it will be the key emphsis in the present and future period. Thus, the transformation and upgrading of tourism has become a hot topic both in tourism industry and acdemic circles.China is rich in lake resources. In the first 12 national tourism resorts, four are lake resorts. The development of lake resorts are very early in China, so it has encountered with some difficulties, which need to have some adjustments in the developing pattern and direction. It is a must for sustainable development of the lake resorts.This paper comes from my considerations for the transformation and upgrading of lake resorts when I took part in the third edition of Tianmu Lake Resort Planning.This thesis, taking Tianmu Lake as an example, discusses the proprate way for the transformation and upgrading of lake resorts.This paper includes six chapters in all. Chapter 1 is introduction, which introduces the studing background and meaning, as well as the research frame and method. Chapter 2 is literature review, including related concepts and basic theory of lake tourism, transformation and upgrading, as well as the review of earlier research which is the theoretical basis of later research and analysis.Chapter 3 analyses the current situation of the Tianmu Lake, which includes the general introduction, maket anaysis and SWOT analysis. Chapter 4 is the research on stategy of the tourism development of Tianmu. Chapter 5 puts forword the detailed ways to transform and upgrade Tianmu Lake. The last chapter points out the inspiration from TianmuLake for the transformation and upgrading of lake resorts.
