Formation and development of metropolitan area has played an increasingly important role in the world economic development process. Promoting the formation and development of metropolitan area has become an inevitable choice in the world economic development process. Especially in the era of globalization and information technology, the development of metropolitan area is facing new opportunities and challenges. In order to develop and promote the construction of China's Beijing metropolitan area, we must learn the development experience of some major successful metropolitan area in the world. Therefore, learning the formation and development of metropolitan and summarizing the development experience of some major successful metropolitan area in the world is an important practical significance of the academic subjects for the development of China's Beijing metropolitan area.This paper summarizes the academic research on the metropolitan area based on the results, according to urban economics, economic geography, spatial economics, the theory of guidance of the world's major metropolitan area's economic development, reviewing their development experience, getting useful insights, and our prospects for the Beijing metropolitan area made the development of forward planning of science.This paper is divided into four parts: The first part is for the metropolitan area to collate and summarize the theory.
