Training programs and interventions continue to play a strategic role in organizations. The instructional system design (ISD) prepares it with the scientific theory and tools, while the human performance technology (HPT) nudges the learning and training professional into a more strategic world. However, the path from training to performance is on a herky-jerky progress as Rossett described, this research therefore studies the practice of transferring training's role towards performance by designing an improvement plan for the sales training of a medical device company, using the theory of HPT and ISD.Company C is a well-known medical device company. In order to maintain the leadership in the field, it puts the development of the sales team among the tops of the agenda. However the sales training seems failed to deliver the expected outcome on the sales person. This research first identifies and analyzes the problem from the perspective of design and implementation via on-site visit, survey, and interview. And then the researcher designs the solutions to improve the training base on the findings in the first part. Afterwards, part of the design is put into test and received measurable results. Lastly, this research concludes with a training design model base on the HPT.
