The Economic Gap Between The Status Of South & North, The Roots And Narrow The Gap Between Empirical Research

Regional economic disparity is a big and important problem in economic development andsocial development, which attracts the academic, the government and the public since the reformand opening to the world. Losing control of the balance of regional economic development is athreat to the social harmonious development. Jiangsu province is one of the most prosperousprovinces in China, although, it also has the same problem. Expansion of economic disparity inits interior retards the speed and permanence of economy development in Jiangsu province, andretards the goal attainment of the "two leadings" as well. Under this background, the articleanalyses the discrepancy of Jiangsu's regional economy development and then make controlstrategies, which is important for Jiangsu economy's sustainable, rapid, sound and harmonydevelopment and for coordinating the relationship between efficiency and equity and forimproving the living standard level of the poor area.Firstly, this article made a deepen research on uneven growth regional economic theory, suchas non-balanced theory, the theories of coordinated development of regional economy,neo-classical growth theory, new growth theory and the development strategy theory. Based onthe rule that theory research must be accordance with empirical evidence, the dissertationattempts to make some comment on the above theories.Secondly, this paper describes the characteristics of Jiangsu regional economic disparities inthe criteria of the Gini coefficient and variance coefficient, and describes the evolvement ofregional economy discrepancies in dynamic perspective. In addition, it decomposes the'disparityin different industries and areas by the criteria of Theil index.Aider quantity description, the dissertation introduces Lin Yifu's development strategy theoryand uses it to interpret the cause of the economic disparities between the south and north ofJiangsu province. Then, it develops a mathematical models and uses econometric to estimate theassumption above.Following the previous analysis, this paper gives a suggestion to decrease the economicdisparities of Jiangsu province, in another word, to promote the north-five-cities development:when local government establishes the development strategy, it must combine the localcomparative advantage and avoid some mistakes.
