Coal is one of the most important energy sources for electric power and other industries in china, so it is the guarantee of the district economic development. Lying in the east of main land, the Yangtze delta is one of the most prosperous area in china. Although the consumption of energy of this area is 15% fo the total consumpition of china, almost all the provision of energy power in Yangtze delta is transported from other provinces, because of the limited amout could be afforded by itself. So a effective coal transportation system plays a pivotal role in the development of this area. There are many ports in Yangtze delta, with their own strengths; the construction of Shanghai international shipping center brings opportunities to the integral planning and development of these ports, which gives a possibility to construct an efficient coal transshipment logistic system which depends on the ports of this area.In order to design a effective coal transshipment logistic system in Yangtze delta, this paper analyzes the current lines of coal transportaion in this area, the condition of the involved ports, and predicts the coal throughput in Yangtze delta ports in the future. By defining the role in the coal transportation, design a eligible practical coal transshipment system which depending on ports.Both qualitative and quantitative methods have been used to study coal transshipment logistic system depending on ports in Yangtze delta. First, the paper outlines the background, the scope and the related study of this subject as well as the main methods of this paper. Second, the text expounds the current situation of coal transshipment system depending on ports in Yangtze delta, which preparing for the futher study.Then by using the analytic hierarchy process to carry on the quantitative analysis for the factors influcing the coal transshipment volume in Yangtze delta, the text refines the main essence by the concept of principal component analysis.Moreover, basing on the key factors, the paper predicts the coal throughput of ports in this area, After that, according to their role in coal transshipment system in Yangtze delta, the text classify the involved ports in three different cluster, by hierarchical cluster analysis with the help of SPSS.11.0. Finally, the text puts forward some policy proposal and safeguard measures to the implementation of this transshipment logistic system. The article will have positive reference to the definition of the roles of ports in Yangtze delta in coal transshipment system, and also have value in promoting the coal tansshipment ability of this area.
