Along with international economic developing, each country, according to its geographic and economic location, formulates a series of politicies on international trade facing to 21st century, especially on container trade. Each country emphasizes the division and cooperation among ports. The idea that ports in certain region improve harmoniously has been cognized commonly.This thesis emphasizes the whole Yangtse Delta as the object of research area. The Yangtse Delta is becoming one of the most energetic and prosperous economical areas in the country and all over the world. The close economic andgeographic relationship with Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Shanghai having formedhistorically helps to building Shanghai international Shipping Center. It is more urgent to have a study on the functions of territorial economy of the Yangtse Delta port group.This thesis discusses weightily the marine system of Yangtse Delta. The first chapter starts with the fundamental on regional and ports development etc., analyzes the relationship between ports and the area, elaborates the function of ports in regional economic development. The Yangtse Delta area has the largest ports group of our country, so the coordinated development of the ports has a very important meaning for promoting the regional ports and economy all. The second chapter analyses the current competition situation of coastal ports group of the Yangtse Delta with the indexes, such as port throughput, etc., and points out the question existing in its evolution and the important meaning of developing in harmony. The third chapter brings forth the Analytic Hierarchy Process to analyze the synthesized competitiveness of the coastal ports of the Yangtse Delta. The forth chapter draws conclusion about the correct orientation and assignment of port in the ports group.
