Research On Formation Mechanism Of Industry-university-research Institute Alliance

Along with the growth of global economy, knowledge economy has already become the trend of the economic development. Under this situation, IURA, as one of the most effective methods to transfer knowledge into economy, is essential to technology innovation and economic development. IURA can not only help to optimize the resources of both parties, but also help to reduce the transaction cost, thus bringing more value to both parties of the alliance. However, influenced deeply by planned economy, both parties cannot use there resources sufficiently because of the obstacles in the communication between them. These obstacles, to some extent, slow down the speed of knowledge economy. As one of the form of cooperation between industry and university, IURA has great potential. In order to analyze the status and problems of IURA, we must know the formation mechanism of IURA. Researches on the formation mechanism of IURA have both significant theoretical meaning and practical meaning.In this paper, we compare different theories, make conclusions, and uses methods of both qualitative analysis and quantitative methods to study the formation mechanism of IURA. Frameworks are introduced under the condition of both complete information and incomplete information. Furthermore, based on the analyses of game models, we try to explain why IURA cannot be widely seen in China nowadays.At first, the thesis defines the concepts of IURA. IURA is considered cooperation between industry, university and research institute; meanwhile, it is in the form of strategic alliance. The definition of IURA will make solid foundation for the research in the following chapters.After the definition, we sort the existing theories on the formation mechanism of IURA, including transaction theory, policy theory, resource-based theory, game theory, theory of strategic management, etc. These theories will be very useful to further analyses.General framework including both in macro and micro forms is provided in this thesis. Macro model is built to explain the cause of IURA; meanwhile, micro models are set up to analyze the value of IURA, the willingness of both parties to set up the alliance and the course of formation of IURA. Different methodologies are used in order to get a whole picture of the formation mechanism of IURA.At the end of the thesis, based on the outcome of our analyses, we will give some explanations on the status and developing strategy of IURA in China.
