Competitiveness Of Foreign Commercial Banks A Comparative Study

In this essay, referring to the existed study, the author gives objective analysis and evaluation on the competitiveness of domestic and foreign banks in China, using typical case study to conduct financial analysis combined with the authority's ranking and critics. The author tries to find the deeper reasons for the distance of the competitiveness between the domestic banks and foreign banks in China.The essay includes six parts. The first part offers summary of the classic theories and researches of the competitiveness study on commercial banks. The second part introduces the background of the study. In retrospect, Chinese commercial banks have undertaken tremendous progress and profound changes; looking ahead, we can say with confidence that Chinese commercial banks have great potentials and bright future. In the third part,the author gives us a general comparison in light with the authority's rankings. In the fourth part,the author takes advantage of the case of the Standarded Charted Bank and China Merchants Bank,using the Dupont Financial model and SWOT approach to give us comprehensive comparison. Under the analysis of the previous four parts, the author props up two deeper reasons for the lower-competitiveness of the domestic commercial banks in China: one is system factor; the other is the enterprise culture. In the last part,the author offers her own suggestions about the improvement of the Chinese domestic banks'competitiveness.
