Urbanization, as a global phenomenon, had its own course and inherent logic. The so-called urbanization model is the basic pattern, the basic form shaped by the process of urbanization practice. The choice of model not only has an important impact on the speed and quality of urbanization, but also is bound to affect the overall situation of modernization because urbanization is a significant variable. Thus it is a very significant issue to study and compare a variety of urbanization models. The urbanization patterns of the countries over the world are brilliant and varied. In this paper, it undertakes systematic analysis of a variety of urbanization models, probed the conditions of their formation and characteristics, and then provides theoretical guidance to urbanization practice.First of all, paper organizes different types of urbanization models in accordance with different standards. The same country or region, according to different classification criteria can be divided into different models. And then it has a total of four different classifications. In these four different types of classification methods, this paper opts for a most controversial, and also the most commonly used method, by which determines urbanization model, and makes very detailed comparisons and researches. In this paper, it has made various comparisons on different urbanization models' starting conditions, process characteristics, trend of development and their advantages and disadvantages. Through these analyses, some meaningful conclusions are obtained. It is obvious that the choice of urbanization model can not be determined by the subjective desire but subject to a number of objective factors. The innovations of the paper are as follows:1. The reasons for formation of different urbanization models are acquired by the analyses of regional conditions and functional ism in sociological angle. As the background in different areas the urbanization relying on, the driving force and the conditions of the urbanization were varied, and the organizations and goals of urbanization differed, different forms of urbanization appeared. Functional requirements of the urbanization, and government's policy guidance also impacted the formation of urbanization model.2. The initial formation of urbanization model was influenced by regional conditions deeply. As regional conditions and functional requirements changed, the urbanization model changed as well. So there is no uniform model, and the specific urbanization models are a product of the regional conditions at that time. Therefore, as to the countries and regions undergoing the process of urbanization, it would be counterproductive to copy any foreign pattern blindly.3. The result of the systematic comparative study for urbanization model has been very rare. In this paper, much more comprehensive analyses of urbanization models are offered, and through a variety of comparisons, a certain number of very inspiring conclusions are served.4. Through the conclusions draw from a wide range of comparisons, some preliminary views are put forth to China' s Urbanization, and these views should have some reference value.
