With the increasingly fierce competition, the implement of information management is the only way out for modern manufacturing enterprises. ERP and MES are two essential contents of the informationization of modern manufacturing industry. ERP, based on thoughts of systematic management, is built on the basis of information technology which provides a management platform of decision-making for the decision-makers and common employees. Though ERP can make historical analysis of the resources and prediction of the future for the company, it cannot timely deals with the current happenings in the factories with less information control of the factories.MES, located between the upper layer ERP and the lower layer PLC, is the executive layer which is largely in charge of manufacturing management and the execution of scheduling. MES provides the system with real-time information through real-time monitoring, analyzing and control over production processes which directs firms'operation of production efficiently. Unfortunately, MES cannot get necessary information sources with ERP. Hence, from the firm's perspective, ERP and MES are mutually complementary and depend on each other where ERP gives MES with necessary planning information while MES provides ERP with real-time production information in the factories. At present, the development and application level of MES software is low home and abroad. Enterprises and institutions attach less importance to MES than ERP. In China, researches on MES focus on the thoughts, contents and structures. The system development of MES is limited on one or several specific functions which are designed for specific problems and researches on production are emphasized on control model while there are few researches on integrated management and control MES software designed for the whole manufacturing processes.Therefore, this paper is aimed at the discussion of the application of MES into Auto firms. The paper, based on the theory of general MES function model, makes a tentative construction of the core functions and whole structure of MES system in Auto firms according to the unique production attributes in the firms and the design rules of MES system. In addition, the paper discusses tthree key technologies in the implement of MES which includes integration of MES&ERP and VIN as well as technology of data collecting.
