China Service Trade Comparative Advantage Analysis And Countermeasures Research

Services play an important role in a country's economic growth and evolution of industries structure. The blooming of services and service trade has made the service trade become an important international economic activity besides goods trade and foreign direct investment, and it will become a focus of international competition in the future. Because of this, comparative advantage in service trade means so much for a country's prospect of trade and economic development. The labor resource in our country is rich, so we have comparative advantage in labor-density service sectors, while have no comparative advantage in modern service sectors with high-tech and human capital density. So it is necessary for us to find a way to improve the comparative advantage in service trade.We think the comparative advantage is the cause of international trade in services as same as the international trade in goods. As we all known, comparative advantage comes from the different level of technology (i.e. productivity) and factor endowments of different countries. The theory of comparative advantage has been greatly developed recently, which includes the static comparative advantage theory and the dynamic comparative advantage theory. If the decisive factors which decide the changes of comparative advantage in service trade can be found, we can improve the comparative advantage of developing countries. Therefore, the study in this thesis will follow two paths, which are technology change and factor accumulation especially human capital accumulation, to be conducted. And empirical examination will be conducted to provide more persuasive power.The thesis consists of five chapters in all.At the beginning of this dissertation, chapter one, introduction, we articulate the theme and the necessity of our study, review the history of comparative advantage theory and give the viewpoint that the theory of comparative advantages can be entirely used in service trade. Then we introduce the sources of comparative advantage in two aspects, internal factors and exterior factors. Finally, this chapter reviews the existing research on the same theme.In chapter two, we introduce some index to measure the comparative advantages. Then the thesis states the current situation of comparative advantages in service trade of our country from the whole and industrial viewpoint.In chapter three, we consider about influence of technology's change and factor accumulation on the dynamic change in comparative advantages in service trade. In this part we conduct some empirical examinations. As for the technology, we take the technology imitation and technology spillover into consideration and find that technology imitation is more important in improving the comparative advantage in service trade. As for the factor accumulation, we lay the research emphases on the human capital and draw the conclusion that accumulation of human capital plays a key role in improving the comparative advantage of trade in service.In chapter four we try to put forward some advice on improving the comparative advantages in service trade of China.In chapter five we review the whole thesis and put forward some suggestions for the further research in the future.The conclusion of the whole thesis is as follows: Efficiently technology imitation and technology spillover in addition to accumulation of human capital will promote the change of comparative advantage in service trade of China.
