With the rapid economic development and the market globalization, The main competition makes the process from development to production more important than product itself. The process starts to focus on the time product to marketing, the development cost, the development quality and the resources optimization. In the past decades, many world wide companies have dedicated their effort to streamline the process from development to production. Such as Toyota' s JIT , Motorola' s 6 Sigma and LEAN management, value engineering etc. these technologies and methods have contributed much to the business in certain field and period. With years' research and practice, DFM has created and proved to be a great progress to reduce the developing time, reduce the design cost, improve the design quality. And now it' s very famous.Firstly this thesis analyzed the development and application of DFM in west contraries, and then analyzed this tool in china. Then introduce the importance of DFM on new product development. This thesis also integrated Concurrent Engineering, Lean Management, Quality Management and Cost Management as a whole DFM platform, expect DFM can: 1). Shorten the develop time 25%; 2). Develop cost down 20%; 3) and improve the quality 30%. In this paper there are many data and cases to prove that DFM is a useful tool for shortening the design cycle time, reducing down the developing cost, improving the product quality. The Chinese govement has announced that Chinese companies must change their strategy from manufacturing to innovation in the coming years. That means many company must start innovation for better competition. Here DFM may be a great tool to help them to get world class competition, also to conquer the challenge that they will face.
