With the development of the economy, computer and telecommunication, credit card has become a multi-functional financial product that comprises deposit and withdrawal of cash, transferring settlement, customers' consumption and revolving credit. The credit card has infiltrated into all ways of social life. It has become an absolute necessary payment instrument. So, the credit card business is one of the most important businesses in the modern commercial banks.The credit card in our country develops late and slowly. There exits great differences between the developed countries and us in terms of perfectness and maturity of credit card industry. According to our promises to enter WTO, our financial market will further open up. The credit card business is becoming the first target to struggle for the financial market among the foreign capital banks, for it has rich return, strong market penetrability and wide brand name influence. How the commercial banks deal with the problem?The author not only reviews the development history of the credit card at home and abroad, but also does research on the credit card's development experiences of the developed countries in the world. Such as American personal credit system, the high-quality credit card service in Japanese JCB Company and Korean credit card crisis. On the basis of the statistics of Zhejiang commercial bank's credit card, the author analyzes deeply the problems and the differences in the credit card's development of our commercial banks. Moreover, the author tries to find the basic reason that has restricted the development of the credit card industry. Finally, the author puts forward some suggestions on developing the credit card of our country. For example, we should establish personal credit system, reform the management pattern of credit card as well as improve the marketing strategy and the service level of the credit card. Meanwhile, we should strengthen credit card risk management and expand the consumer loan business of the credit card.
