With the increasing expansion of trade and investment across Taiwan Strait, there is an increasing demand from Taiwan business people for banking service. Many Chinese and foreign-investment banks have positioned Taiwan enterprises and individuals as their target clients, so that the competition between banking institutions are becoming more and more fierce. This poses a severe challenge to Huayi Bank, which is still on its initial stage of development. As a small joint-venture bank with Taiwan investment background, how it properly posits itself and secures advantage in competition is the research focus of the present thesis.Through interviewing peers, reading internal material, and collecting data, the author has gathered the basic and necessary information about the company' s overall condition, the market traits of Taiwan-invested companies, their opponents' condition, etc. On this basis, I have first made a brief review of the history and present situation of our country' s monetary industry, and also made a deep analysis of the external environment of Huayi Bank. Then I have made a brief review of the history and present situation of Huayi Bank, analyzed in detail the bank' s internal resources and capabilities, and discovered its superiority and inferiority. With the support of theoretical basis and empirical research, I have proposed a development strategy for Huayi Bank and made specific implementation suggestions.In the part of strategy analysis, this paper has analyzed Huayi Bank' s external environment by employing "Six-force Interaction Model" , analyzed its superiority, inferiority, opportunities and hazards by employing "SWOT" , discovered and selected its future development objective and mission, and decided on its overall development strategy and that of its related functioning department.In the part of strategy implementation, feasible proposals are made based on the previous analysis. Huayi Bank must reexamine and modify its Business objective, risk management, organization layout, informationization construction, process management, human resource management, etc. Through special markets, specific clients, unique products, and special approaches, achievements will be made in expanding profit sources and space, providing excellent service for clients, creating maximized value for shareholders, and giving employees highest career development.This thesis is creative in the following several aspects. First, through the analysis of present monetary situation, it points out the significance of the existence of small banks and their strategic development direction, and it could be applicable in joint-venture banks and small banks. Second, through "SWOT" analysis, it has analyzed opportunities and challenges facing Huayi Bank, discovered its advantages and disadvantages, hence set up the company' s overall development strategy. Third, it has proposed a new layout of Huayi Bank' s organization structure, pointed out a specific direction in shaping and fostering its core competitive strength, and found out effective approaches for implanting its market development strategies.
