For The Older Age Groups To Consider The Identity-oriented System Design

With the constant enlargement of the proportion of the aged population, the aging population society is coming soon, and the correlative stadium facilities are increasing expanded. While due to the change of life idea, the possibility of the aged people's egression greatly increased. It is especially important to build a Signage system for guiding the aged group. But, the design of Signage system for the aged population has no systemic theoretical research results in the present in China, related facility is still at a starting step.This thesis based on the principle of considering the aged population, from seven aspects including color, character, graphic symbol, light, material, setting and sound of the design of Signage system, accompanying social questionnaire investigation and concrete cases, researched and analyzed the elements that should be taken into account and improved in the design of Signage system considering the aged population, and proposed a solution scheme based thereon. First, in the aspect of color, it proved that the aged has difficulties in distinguishing blue from green, and explained how to implement emotional care to the aged making use of the characteristic; in the aspect of character, it clarified the typeface selection of Chinese characters, the arrangement standard of English characters, the type size and kerning, and the standard of detail treatment; in the discussion of light, it summarized the suitable density of light source for the aged, and the damages caused by dazzle; in the aspect of graphic symbol, it analyzed the elements influencing the simplicity of the graphic symbols; in the material part, it proposed a suitable natural and affinity material meeting the mental requirement of the aged population; in the aspect of setting, it standardized the suitable near spacing for height and continuity; at last, in the aspect of sound guiding, it concluded the present types and the control of volume and noise. In summary, this thesis considered the problem from humanity view hoping for solving practice problems for the aged population, and supplied an academic reference to the Signage system designers.
