The pharmaceutical industry has taken unprecedented development in the past 10 years. From 1994 -2004, the average profit margin of China's pharmaceutical industry reached 13.2 percent 10 years, which is 4.4 percent higher than the national industry level. During the same time, some private pharmaceutical companies ushered in golden time of the development. As a result of that, a large number of fast-growing private enterprises emerged. But there have been a series of problems in recent years. The pharmaceutical industry saddled with the name of a industry with huge profits and high drug prices. And become the reason of the fact that common people can not afford to see the doctors and take medicines. It also become a hot issue during the two committe. So our government took a series of measures to regulate the pharmaceutical industry. Profitability of the medical enterprises decline sharply and many of them faced the severest situation. Since the pharmaceutical industry is a key pillar industry in Sichuan Province and private pharmaceutical companies accounted for 76% of the total number of the pharmaceutical companies in Sichuan. With the reform of the medical and health system and introduction of the new drug management system, the private pharmaceutical companies have come to the crossroad in the way of development under the current political and economic circumstances.In this paper, the author takes Sichuan Colum pharmaceutical company as an example, comparing private pharmaceutical companies with domestic private enterprises in Sichuan and foreign private enterprises. On the basis of in-depth analysis of the current medical environment for enterprise development, the paper illustrates the the location of the private pharmaceutical enterprise's core competitiveness and core competitiveness enhancing as well as an important part of the process of constructing core competitiveness, Sichuan initiatives to puts forward the ways enhance the core competitiveness for the private pharmaceutical companies and provides a useful reference to the enterprises decision-makers in the industry.The author used core competitiveness, the environment analysis in the competiveness theory and Porter's 5 forces theory in the paper.
