Government Failure And Food Safety Issues

Nowadays food safety has become the focus of attention in the world. Since reform and opening-up, the supply of food of our country has grown form shortage to balance. In the past, people only pay attention to having food to eat, but now people want to eat healthy and nutrition food. The current food safety situation of our country is not optimistic. Therefore, to build a more efficient food regulation system is extremely urgent. This paper based on the theory of government failure, analyze government failures in the field of China's food regulation. Finding out the reason of government failure by the study of The 2008 milk scandal. Studying the United States and Japan's experience in food safety regulation, this paper propose several measures to solve government failure. Food safety regulation, required a perfect legal system, execute by Government agencies with specific duties, coupled with effective accountability mechanisms and strong external oversight.
