Content: This paper aims to have a general study on business custom of Wei County in modern times.As the important part of economic folklore, the research value of business custom's applied function becomes increasingly important in this fast developed times of commodity economy. However, the studies on business custom are still very weak and shallow, and have many problems at present, such as academic system is not systematic and not integrated. The study is just limited at the general description of business folklore's matter, lack of regular investigation on changes of business folklore, etc. So, the author selects the epoch of modern times from opening the commercial port in the early 20 century to state-private ownership jointing in the middle of 1950's, systematically investigate the business folklore's matter of modern Wei County. The content of study include consuetude bazaar commerce, commerce guild manage, consuetude of belief and taboo. At the same time, the historical background and developmental manner and form of business custom have been lucubrated. In this paper, we summarize the cultural significance and societal function and historical value of Wei County's business custom. We not only conclude business folklore's matter, but also exhume the cultural significance of bazaar, pawnshop, guild, religion and taboo, and investigate the background and developmental manner of these folklore's matters. As an important part, we also study the relation between development of commodity economy and variance of business custom under the background of urbanization. The aim of this paper is to supply historical reference for the fine development of folk-custom industry in modern Weifang and market economy in the whole world.The paper consists of seven parts. The introduction explains the academic meaning and the present condition of research about the subject, and introduces the main content, the new ideas and textural research methods. The first chapter investigates the rise and thriving history of industry and commerce, and analyses briefly the history of business custom in Wei County in modern age applying study method of social history. From chapter two to chapter five, the author making use of the research methods of folklore, history and economics and so on, study completely the urban business custom in Weifang in modern age. The paper discusses systematically the shopkeeper's custom of business, transaction and management, and analyses the humanities intention of businessmen. Furthermore, the paper investigate the evolutional regularity of Wei County's business custom from the traditional age toward modern times, through the conclusion of business custom's spread and variation during the period of society transform,.
