| In the era of knowledge economy, the capability of self-innovation play a crucial role in an enterprise's development as well as a nation's sustainable development. All countries across the world gradually recognize the importance of innovation. Meanwhile, the enterprises are the main bodies of self-innovation and the research into the situation and the value nature of their self-innovation hence further distil the experiential evidence of its effect upon the enterprises'creation of value has an important realistic significance for promoting China's building an innovative style of country and guiding the enterprises to formulate strategy for self-innovation, and enhancing the ability of the enterprises to self-innovate.Patent, which affects the performance of the enterprise mainly through developing and selling new products, is the most suitable quantified indicator for weighing creative products. Therefore, with the listed companies from western regions as the subject and 158 listed manufacturers companies as samples from the year of 2005 to 2008, research is made into whether patent exerts a lagged effect on the enterprise's performance by regarding patent and CROA as self-innovation output item indicators of the enterprise's performance. In accordance with research by previous researchers, a maximum of 3-year lagging period has been chosen. An analytic method of long term inclination is applied in the research. Considering the difference exerted by the heterogeneity of patent on the performance, positive analyses have been made of the relationship between three types of patent and the performance of the enterprise. The result shows that the more application for and authorization of the above-mentioned three types of patent by listed manufacturing companies from western regions, the more beneficial it is for them to enhance their successive operation performance. Compared with the number of authorization, the number of application for invention and exterior designing exerts more effect on the performance of the enterprise, while the numbers of application for new types of practical patent affect less on the performance of the enterprise. The research does not apply the analytic approach used by previous researchers to judge whether there is a lagged effect by only comparing regression coefficient of a single group of patent and performance. Instead, it makes an F test by considering a long term inclination coefficient. And the result indicates that patent has a lagged effect on enterprise's performance but with no definite lagging periods. Meanwhile, the result of the positive research also shows the promoting effect of patent with high scientific value on the performance of the enterprises is bigger than that which has a low scientific value. In the end, according to the result of the research, the thesis puts forward some policy advice on improving the level of the enterprise's patent output and enhancing the capability of self-innovation of the enterprise. |
