As an important node of the modern logistics, the construction and development of warehouse have been put on great importance by the government and enterprises. In a long period, warehouse has belonged to labor-intensive enterprises in our country. By the late 1990s, although the warehouse industry has been developed greatly, the warehouse industry in China is still not satisfactory with the existence of various problems. What's more, there is no agreed standard of how to create a distribution center.The target warehouse is a storage warehouse of oil-related materials which belongs to China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation in Chongqing. The warehouse built in the period of planned economy years, and modified once in 90's. However, some hardware and software aspects still need to be improved. Based on the requirements of planning and designing of distribution center, this thesis studies the programming and designing of distribution center from the aspects of theoretical and practical applications.This paper is divided into six chapters. The first chapter mainly discusses the research background and international research of modern distribution center. Meanwhile, it mention about the traditional warehouse should be re-positioning, and convert to the modern distribution center.Chapter II demonstrates theoretical basis for this paper. It shows the objects of the thesis and explains the functional elements of how to convert the traditional warehouse to a modern distribution center, as well as the theoretical basis for this reconstruction program.Chapter III analyzes the warehouse's current situation of the China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation in Chongqing. It also identifies the problems and lists the solution.Chapter IV and V mainly research on how to improve the hardware and software aspects of the warehouse specifically to make sure the system operate effectively. Chapter VI concludes a general model of the transformation from a traditional warehouse to a modern distribution center.In a sum, the paper illustrates the significance of transformation, and the floor planning of a warehouse, as well as the information systems. It demonstrates the feasibility of transformation to ensure that the further expansion of CPC.
