China is vast in territory with 21,000 kilometers long landlocked boundary line, China have 9 provinces and autonomous regions bordering on with fifteen countries, which makes Chinese frontier port city have the advantaged geo-condition to develop. Since the introduction of the policies of reform and opening to the outside world, the Chinese government adopted the strategy of opening to the frontiers and a series of detailed polices. Relies on geographical advantage, foreign trade has been the main driving force for Chinese frontier port city and frontier regions behind economic development.Compared with the coastal port city, the development frontier port city is still backward. Since the international financial crisis, trade protectionism influences the continue-ability development of frontier port city. The new condition brings opportunities and challenges to frontier port city. Therefore, taking correct patterns and strategies for this is urgent.This thesis takes in combining theory and practice, qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis of the methods. This thesis is going to have a deep research on the patterns of the Chinese frontier port city development in five parts. Firstly, this thesis gives a comprehensive statement about the background of the research topic, and brings forth the frame of this thesis. In the second part, this thesis concludes the ideas of frontier port city and the different aspect on inland central city, coastal port city and frontier port city. The third part takes use of large amount of figures and tables to conclude the distribution of frontier port city and analyze current situation of the frontier port city, including city construction, foreign trade and Industry structure, further analyze influence on the regional economy in the development of frontier port city. The fourth part of this thesis discusses the relationship between regional economic integration and frontier port city, the relationship between Sub-regional economic cooperation and frontier port city. At the same time, this thesis used SWOT analysis method to the development of frontier port city. On the other hand, this thesis studied the successful experience abroad to research on the patterns of Chinese frontier port city development.Lastly, Manzhouli is one of mainly frontier port city of China, this thesis takes Manzhouli for example in order to provide use for the development of frontier port city. This thesis sumed up the past experience of Manzhouli's development and analyses the contribution of frontier trade to the economic increase. Based on some above research, this thesis is going to come up the patterns of Manzhouli development and proposes some corresponding policy suggestion.
