Scrophulariaceae Active Extract Preparation And Quality Control

Radix Scrophulariae (RS) is the dry roots of Scrophularia ningpoensis Hemsl., which belongs to the family of Scrophulariaceae. RS is a well known traditional Chinese medicine, that has effects of "cooling the blood" and nourishing "Yin" in TCM theory.The main chemical components of RS contain harpagide,harpagoside, angoroside C and cinnamic acid, which belong to the chemical types of iridoids, phenylpropanoids and organic acid. Pharmacological studies showed that the Active Component Extractive from RS (ACERS) containing these compounds as main principles has a role in the cardiovascular system:ACERS can expand coronary arteries, reduce blood pressure, prevent platelet aggregation, promote fibrinolysis, improve blood rheology etc. Therefore, ACERS is regarded as a potential new TCM drug in the treatment of cardiovascular disease.In this thesis, extract preparation and quality control method of RCERS were studied. It is contained four parts:1 Summarize the progress of RS in the chemical constituent and pharmacological studies.2 Investigate the RS quality controlAs RS is from different areas, we used content of active components to investigate RS.3 Study the extraction and purification of RSThis part optimized the conditions for water extraction of the roots of the plant, alcohol precipitation of the extracts, purification of the constituents and drying of the different fractions.4 Set up the methods for RS quality controlThe contents of water, total ash, acid insoluble ash, heavy metals, arsenic salt and the active component and residue on ignition were investigated to establish a method for ACERS quality control.
