Chronic bronchitis is the chronic non-specific inflammation of trachea, bronchial mucosa and surrounding tissue, with repeated paroxysmal chronic cough, expectoration, occurring on most days for at least 3 months and for at least 2 consecutive years as the main clinical feature. It is a common occurring internal disease. The condition of a patient will get more and more serious .Patients can fall ill again and again. The latter may be complicated by bronchiectasis, emphysema, chronic pulmonary heart disease, respiratory failure and so on. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, it can be the "cough", "asthma,"Phlegm drunk syndrome"and other areas of disease or syndrome. Chronic bronchitis,with a long duration,starts from illness in lung with moderate conditions,then develops to other organs including spleen and kidney , with repeating outbreaks and protracted Course. Disorder functions of the viscera and abnormal circulation of Qi,blood and body fluid which will result in such pathological substances as phlegm,retention of fluid and blood stasis, also forms mixed syndromes of sthenia and deficiency . It can be divided into three-stage (acute, chronic, clinical remission) on diagnosis and treatment of chronic bronchitis and its complications.Chronic bronchitis is the common disease in most of the elderly, who with low resistance, low sensitivity to most antibiotics have more original diseases. So if chronic bronchitis happens, it will be a longer recurring duration of ill condition, with many complications. How to control and improve the quality of continued survival in patients with chronic bronchitis becomes a major medical work. This article expounds my Teacher's views on pathogenesis and the syndrome of chronic bronchitis. Teacher believes that in chronic bronchitis, six evils outside attack, lung, spleen and kidney function failure is the root cause of disease. Sputum, blood stasis is a syndrome of the disease. Chronic bronchitis is located in the lung, but its original pathogenesis also has a relationship to the functions of spleen and kidney. Teacher analyses pathogenesis of chronic bronchitis, then treats the chronic bronchitis with the idea of nourishing one's vitality ,promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis and reducing phlegm, and get a good therapy results.
