Objectives: To assess the mechanism and clinical value of vitaminum B6 and sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) as right heart contrast agent, providing an important basis for wider clinical application. Methods: According to the chemical characteristics of vitaminum B6, its features were compared before and after the mixture of vitaminum B6 injection and sodium bicarbonate injection, and the gas produced during the reaction was also identified in our research for the sake of exploring the mechanism. Moreover, the amount of the gas produced and the intensity of two contrast agents (vitaminum B6 + sodium bicarbonate and vitaminum C + sodium bicarbonate) were compared in vitro and in vivo. Results: (1) The key gradient of vitaminum B6 (C8H11N03) do not take part in the reaction, without its amount alteration before and after reaction, which proves that it was just the hydrochloric acid (HC1) in vitaminum B6 that plays the key role in the reaction. (2) According to our results, the contrast efficacy of vitaminum B6 and sodium bicarbonate is superior to that of vitaminum C and sodium bicarbonate. Conclusion: The mixture of vitaminum B6 injection and sodium bicarbonate is a high quality right heart contrast agent with little side reaction, which is worthy of wide spread in clinical application.
