| AbstractAcute leukemia (AL) is clonal malignancy that is characterized by theappearance of increased ntUnber of immature myeloid cells in the n1areow and blood.AL haS been described as" xu 1ao"," re Iao", 'ji Iao" or" bai ri Iao" "xuezheng" in Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM). ChemotheraPy is the main therapyof AL, and the dl-ug of ChemotheraPy can treat Al with inducing the aPoptosis.Chinese herbal can relieve the poisnous and side effects, enhance the curetive effect,extend the period of remission, decrease relaPse and there are many mechhasms ofthese effects, sucll as inducing apoptosis.We hold the opinion that tlle pathogenis of AL is asthnia combined withsthenia, insufficiency of the spleen and the kidney, dominated by heat toxin as wellas blood stasis and phegm coagtlation. So we made two chinese herbal complexprescriptions named as Qingdu decoction and Yangcheng tablet. The Qingdudecoction can clear pestilence and counteract toxin, eliminate pathogenic heat fromblood and stop bleeding, and promote blood circulation to dissipate blood stasis, thatis to say, it can restrain leukemia cells.The Yangzheng tablet can invigorate Qi andbenefit blood, tonify the kidney to arrest spontaneous emission, in another word,lessen the marrow inhibition and thus he1p to recover the hematOpoiesis funtion ofmarrow. We had uscd the Qingdu decoction before chemotheraPy and theYangzheng tablet after chemotherapy, which interpretated that the two prescriptionshad the ability to enhance the curative effect of chemotheraPy and reduce the.poisono[ls and side effects of it, at the same time to improve living quality ofleukemia patients. Experiments showed that the two prescriptions can improve theimmune function of those mice with tumors and induce cellular genes (interleukin-2' interleukin-6. Tumo necrosis factor),which testify that they can be applied toclinic as regulators of biologic reactions. The result of the exprimental study showedthat the Qil1gdu decoction and the Yangzheng tablet have the effects of inducing theapoptosis of L,,,2 leukemia ce1ls. Inhibiting the protein expression of bcl-2 and sFas,and promoting the protein expression of Fas, making Fas combined with FasI. maybethe mechanisms of them. On the basis of the ancient reserch, we used the ordinaldrugging project of the Qingdu decoction and the Yangcheng tablet combined with3chemotherapy to treat AL and try to study in tI1ese aspects:l.Clinical ReserchThe study invoIved two groups, nameIy, tl1e handling group of tI1e patiel1ts of ourhospital in 2000. l-200l .5 (9 cases) and the control group in l995-l999 (l l cases).We have combined chemotherapy with ordinal drugging prOject of the Qingdudecoction and the Yangzheng tabIet to treat AL in tl1e handling group. Accordi11g tosemiotis degree, we lnade the differcntial diagnosis more accuratly and combined thedose of Qingdu decoction and Yangzlleng tablet with the differential diagnosis. Wecompared the Curative effect, poisnious and side effects, marrow inl1ibition, thecondition of remission between the two groups. In the l1andling group, there are 7patiens who got completely remission (CR), the CR rate is 77.8% and the effectiveratc is 88.9%. In the control group, 8 patiens got CR, thc CR rate is 72.7% and theefttctive rate is 8l .8%.The CR rate a11d effective rate of the handing group were nlllligher than those of thc control group, but there were no sta1istical difference bet\\)eetllc two groups (P>0.05 ). The symp1om score of the handling group after treatment\vas l3.25ll .83, while that of tl1e control group was l6.44i3.05,and the differel1cebetwee the two groups was statistica1ly 5ignifical1t (P<0.05). The tin1e of thellandlil1g group was less than t11e control group When the decreasing of the wI1iteblood cell count (WBC) al1d thc WBC get the lowest tite (P<0.05 ).
