It is the dried root of plant Ficus hirta VahI. of genus Ficus in family Moraceae, recorded in China Pharmacopeia (1977).It can supplement the spleen and boost lung, dispel dampness and relax tendon .It is mainly distributed in South and Southwest of our country, the production and marketing of Radix Ficus hirtae is mainly in GuangDong and GuangXi province. It can heal hepatitis, oedema, rheumatic arthritis, cough due to overwork ect.al. It mainly contains Carbohydrate, Amino acid, Steroid, Coumarin. Researchers from home and abroad didn't make a systematic study on Radix Ficus hirtae. Radix Ficus hirtae is widely used to make wine, soup, and tea in Heyuan area .The widely use of Radix Ficus hirtae, especially the economic effects hasten the local peasants dig the Radix Ficus hirtae in mass including very little ones. Thus made the source of Radix Ficus hirtae reduced rapidly, The quality of Radix Ficus hirtae can't be guaranteed because of the destructive harvest. In order to guarantee the quality and the continuous development of Radix Ficus hirtae, We and the Yuancheng bureau of Science of Heyuan city cooperated in Guishan forest farm and built a 35 mu GAP(Good Agricultural Practice) demonstrating base of Radix Ficus hirtae to carry out the research on Radix Ficus hirtae of GAP. We centered on the important contents of GAP of Chinese materia medica, make detailed research on Ficus hirtae from source of breed, agricultural technology, chemical component analysis, pharmacognosie appraisal, content determination of Psoralen and supplied the formulation of SOP(Standard Operation Procedure) of Radix Ficus hirtae first-hand data The article reported the systematical study on species textual criticism, the writer found the plant source of Radix Ficus hirtae is Ficus hirta Vahl. in family Moraceae, and it is not the root of plant Ficus simplissima Lour. in the same family after about two years?investigation in producing area. We also collected many samples of Ficus hirta Vahl. with all kinds of leaves in producing area, they are all Ficus hirtae Vahl. after appraisal. Chemical components, Pharmacological action, Clinic use of genus Ficus are also summarried in the paper. We found Ficus hirta Vahl. distributed in most place of GuangDong province, after we investigated in many producing area such as Heiyuan city, Heping county, Longrnen county, Baiyun moutain of Guangzhou city, Liuxihe forest farm of Conghua county. Now the test of artificial cultivation of Ficus hirta Vahl. is in progress by Yuancheng bureau of science and Guangzhou university of T.C.M in Heyuan city. We also found Radix Ficus hirtae were divided into small leaf and large leaf speicies. In order to found the GAP base of Radix Ficus hirtae, the agricultural technique were summaried from suitable ecological environment, technique of growing seeding (including tissue culture), field manage, the prevention and control of plant disease and elimination of pests, harvest and processing.
