Objective To ascertain Whether the human Insulin receptor polymorphism is associated with cerebral infaction(CI) in Chinese. Methods This is a case-control study in Chinese DNA samples abstracted from 141 cases, which were analysed by polymeraese chain reaction(PCR),single-strand conformational polymorphism(SSCP)to determine the exon 17 varition of human insulin receptor gene. Results Three different patterns of the PCR products in SSCP,which called band pattern I,II,III respectively, were presented from CI group, EH accompanied with CI group and normal control subjects. Frequencies of band pattern II were 63.64% in CI group,54.17% in EH+CI group and 32.39% in normal controls. Frequencies of band pattern I were 27.27% in CI group,27.08% in EH+CI group and 60.45% in normal controls. There were significant increase in band pattern II and significant decrease in band pattern I between CI group and controls, and between EH+CI group and controls. There were no significant differences of band pattern III between cases and controls. Conclusions Band pattern Ⅱgene may be a predisposing gene mark and band patternⅠgene a resistance gene mark for CI, hINSR gene exon 17 polymorphism contributes to the development of CI.
