| Chronic gastritis (CG) is a inflammation　lesion of gastric mucous membrane caused by different etiological factor.This disease pertains to the categories of "pi "and stomachache in TCM, etc. CG especially chronic superficial gastritis (CSG) is prevalent in Taiwan because of living tension, eating habit and weather. Although this disease isn't dangerous to life , it has affected employment and living of patient. There is no effective therapy on CG at present .TCM has a good effect on CG through mult-pathway and mult-target .So there is an important significance to carry out clinical investigation on CG treated by TCM.This article made a systems review on CG treated by TCM recently, at first. There exist the pathogenesis of Deficiency, Stagnancy (Qi, Blood, Phlegm, Food), Heat, and Toxin in CG. Several therapeutic methods were summed up in the paper, including: Mediation (The pungent dispersing and the bitter purging, Regulating the functional relation of the viscera), Clearing away heat and removing toxic substances, Promoting blood circulation and regulating the flow of Qi, Invigorating Qi and nourishing Yin, Tonifying the spleen and kidney. There is no identical typing in differentiation of syndromes .For this reason, it is extremely significant to investigate the law of the differentiation of syndromes of CG. Generally speaking, damping-heat type is more common in active phase of CSG, blood stasis in chronic atrophic gastritis, gallbladder -heat attacking the stomach in bile regurgitative gastritis .One prescription for one disease is an better pattern for TCM to explore the diagnosis and therapy of CG. Combination of TCM and western medicine is advantageous to finding out effect .The clinical experiment concerned the essence of syndrome of CG principally.Secondly, this article commented on theory and application of the combination of prescriptions .On the basis of current achievement, standard of the combination of prescription was put forward (i.e., the combination of prescriptions should comprehend intrinsic formation of each prescription), and doctrine of the combination of prescriptions include: coordinating each other to increase their effects; counteracting each other to reduce or remove their side effects; producing new effects to meet the therapeutic needs. The paper summarized the application of the combination of prescription, also.Literature of syndrome of "Pi"was put in order in the section of theory investigation. Comprehension of "Pi"was explained from Huangdi's classic on Medcine to Qing dynasty, especially Zhang zhongjing, Li dongyuan, Ye tianshi .To observe the curative effect of the combination "Sini Powder "and "Banxia Xiexin Decoction "in treating chronic gastritis, 56 patients were selected. Scientific concentrated agent were used .All patients were treated for 4 weeks. Results showed that the total effective rate was 83.72% and that the improvement rate of symptoms was 68.96%. Effect on stomachache was the best, then belching, acid regurgitation and fullness. Examination of HP antibody indicated that post treatment was distinctly lower than pretreatment. This treatment had less effective on patients who had insufficiency of the spleen and stomach obviously. Through observation above, we can conclude that incoordination between the liver and stomach and retention of damp-heat in the spleen and stomach and minor insufficiency of spleen is the pathogenesis of the adaptive syndrome of the combination of "Sini Powder "and "Banxia Xiexin Decoction ". It's main symptoms and signs include that epigastric burning sensation and distension and pain, belching, acid regurgitation, epigastric fullness which is aggravated after meal, loss of appetite, distress, loose stool or discharged with difficulty, thin and yellow fur, or white and greasy, or yellow and greasy, or simultaneous yellow and white, taut pulse, or slippery, or rapid, or deep and thready.
