In order to find most novel bioactive compounds from the natural sources and take an advantage of the edible plants, nutritional components on the root of Potentilla anserina L. (Rosaceous) in Tibet were investigated firstly. The results showed that Potentilla anserina L. contained crude protein 10.08%,crude fat 1.14%,total dietary fiber 15.18%,ash 3.52%,reducing sugar 1.90%,total sugar 12.47%, starch 18.02%. There were not only varieties of amino acid, but also eight kinds of essential amino acid to human body in this plant. The content of arginine was 16.6%,which was more than other foods. As inorgantic elements, the content of Ca,P,Mg,Fe,Zn was 229.06,370.07,141.13,21.23,20.49 mg/100g respectively, which were higher than other root foods too much times. The content of vitamin C was 19.2mg/100g, which was outstanding. So it showed that Potentilla anserina L.in Tibet was a nutritious and vabluable wild plant.Secondly, the functional experiments were studied. The results indicated that Potentilla anseria L. in Tibet could decrease the content of blood lactic acid in mice, prolong the swimming time in loaded mice, prolong survival time during oxygen lacking, increase the content of RBC and HGB in blood in mice.So it could improve the metabolize ability, physical strength and exhibit the significant effects on anti-fatigue,hypoxia tolerance and anti-anemia. It also showed signitificant effects on losing weight, the content of serum lipid in mice. And the effect on increasing the content of RBC and HGB in blood had been concorded with the record in pharmacopoeia of Tibet.By means of following the tracks of activities, the bioactive compounds displaying anti-anemia properties had been isolated, purified and structurally characterized. The petrol-soluble fraction of the EtOH extract of the root of Potentilla anserina L.(Rosaceous)showed the most potent activity on anti-anemia. Further investigation on the chemical constituents of the extractions was carried out using column chromatography and GC-MS techniques, and the structures of 12 compounds were identified. They were hexadecanoic acid, octadecanoic acid, oleic acid, tetradecanoic acid, ethyl ester, octadecanoic acid, ethyl ester, ethyl oleate,9,12-octadecanoic acid [E,E]-,3-octadecene[E]-,β-sitosterol,stigmasta-3,5-dien-7-one,1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid,diisooctyl,bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate. And the content of hexadecanoic acid was too much. According to the investigation on the effect of increasing the content of RBC and HGB in blood in Angelica sinensis and Cynomorium songaricum, we deduced that hexadecanoic acid was the bioactive compound.Through repeated column chromatography, recrystallizing and prepared TLC, eight known compounds were isolated from the EtoAc-soluble fraction of the EtOH extractsof the root of Potentilla anserina L.(Rosaceous). Their structures were characterized on the basis of spectroscopic analysis and chemical evidence. These compounds included two steroidals,β-sitosterol(Ⅰ),daucosterol(Ⅱ), and six triterpenoids, ursolic acid(Ⅲ), pomolic acid(Ⅳ),euscaphic acid(Ⅴ), tormentic acid(Ⅵ),rosamultin(Ⅶ) and kaji-ichigoside F1(Ⅷ). Except forβ-sitosterol, the other seven compounds were isolated for the first time from this plant. The result may supply some information to clarify the reason for the root of Potentilla anserina L.(Rosaceous) to be used to treat anemia in the clinical trials, and also be helpful to support to the further bioactivity studies, especially to exploit this edible plant to be a natural healthy food. The mechanism of bioactive compounds will be further investigated in the future study.
