AIM:The purpose of this study is to explore the clinical and psychological efficacy of Xinwei Decoction, a traditional Chinese herbal medicine, to treat functional dyspepsia (FD) accompanied with depression and anxiety,METHODS:60 subjects, being divided into two groups, Domperidone group and Herbal group, had been respectively given gastrointestinal movement-promoting therapy (Domperidone) and herbal therapy (Xinwei Decoction) for 8 weeks, with 13 subjects treated by placebo. All those subjects, before and after treatment, were examined with FD symptom scale, HAMD and HAMA,RESULTS:The total scores of Herbal group in FD symptom scale, HAMD and HAMA before and after treatment were 14.77 ± 3.626,26.90 ± 6.048,28.37 ± 4.796 and 3.73 ± 4.441, 6.27 ± 1.337, 5.53 ± 1.479, respectively, while that of Domperidone group were 13.57 ± 3.866,26.70 ± 7.033,29.20 ± 5.708 and 7.07 ± 4.734, 13.93 ± 1.701, 13.40 ± 2.749, respectively, and the total effective rate of Herbal group and Domperidone group were 90% and 67% respectively, which indicated significant difference between the effect of Xinwei Decoction and Domperidone in FD symptom, HAMD and HAMA (p<0.01) and between the total effective rate of them (p<0.05), showing the efficacy of the herbal therapy was markedly superior to that of Domperidone therapy.CONCLUSION:The efficacy of the traditional Chinese herbal therapy, Xinwei Decoction to treat FD accompanied with depression and anxiety obviously excelled that of gastrointestinal movement promoting therapy (Domperidone) and Xinwei Decoction could notably not only alleviate FD symptoms but also relieve depression and anxiety. |
