Objective: To explore the curative effect of retention enema with Chinese medicine in the prevention of chronic severe hepatitis and its endo-toxemia.Methods: Based on the admission date at random, 60 cases of the early stage and metaphase were divided into two groups, ie, therapeutic group (the group of retention-enema with Chinese medicine) and the control group (the group of retention-enema with lactucose). Two groups were 30 cases respectively. The therapeutic group included 12eases of the early stage and 18cases of metaphase; The control group included 13cases of the early stage and 17cases of metaphase. On the base of complex therapies that two groups got, the therapeutic group was treated with retention -enema with Chinese medicine, every day a dose, all for four weeks. The control group was given with retention-enema with lactucose, every day one time, all for four weeks too. On the first day of the therapy, the serum level of liver function (TBil, Alb, PTA) and ET were detected respectively, After therapy, we would compare the clinical effect between two groups in term of the above content. Results: At the end of the therapy, compared with the control group, the serum ET level of the treatment group was much significantly lower (P<0.05). The liver function of the therapeutic group began to get restoration two weeks earlier than the control group. Compared with the control group, the effective rate of the therapeutic group was significantly higher (P<0.05) and the complications of the therapeutic group were significantly fewer thanthe control group (P<0.05).Conclusions: the retention-enema with Chinese medicine and lactucose all decrease the production and the deliberation of endotoxin. This clinical study suggests that the retention enema with Chinese medicine may play an important role in inhibition of ET, in protection of liver cells and raising survival rate of chronic severe hepatitis.
