| The opinion of "treat disease before it arises" - "No treat disease but treat before it arises" and "No treat unnormal but treat before it arises" are devised by accient Chinese medicine. The Neijing has much record about this prophylaxis opinion which has influenced further. "Preventive acupuncture and Preventive moxibustion" is a commonly used prophylaxis method in Chinese medicine, which refers to stimulation of qi and blood within meridians when a person is health or before the disease arises, and the self-health force and emergency ability within the body will be strengthened so that health protection or alleviation of diseases and disorders could be achieved. Not only our Chinese medicine books describe a lot about the function of "preventive acupuncture" , but also profuse modern researches have validated that it can strengthen one's constitution and prolong one's life, but its exact mechanism is still unknown.According to modern stress theory, stress belongs to protective and adaptable response of body. Proper stress can engender endogenous adaptability to prevent from onset of illness or alleviate one's condition. The advantage of this preventive method is to arouse the endogenous healing force rather than supply exogenous substances to protect health. Pretreatment in this way is a holistre interference method, it mobilizes and promotes one's inherent healing force as much as possible. Preventive acupuncture just has such an advantage for health protection and treatment of diseases. It has the characteristic of benign strimulating source, which can mobilize the body potential, start up internal protecting mechanrism to improve the ingenerate ability of defending disease and meeting an emergency and will not produce side-effect of tissue's and organ's injury or functional decompensate. It has a great advantage, compared to the pretreatment such as ischemia or anoxia in western medicine. And that indicates preventive acupuncture has a vast future.Menopause is the important transitional period to women from young to old. Many factors such as insufficiency of kidney essence exhaustion of "tiangui" , different of constitution, influence of family or society and so on lead to imbalance between yin and yang and disharmony of qi and blood. Therefore a series of symptoms arises which is called climateric syndrome. If we can take some simple and safe methods in advance to delay the aging process and relieve those symptoms of menopause, It will do a favour to the research of delaying ageing.In experiment the animal model of menopause was made by ovariectomy. Acupuncture and moxibustion were applid to those rat's "Guanyuan" point in advance. A lot of advanced techniques such as radio-immunity, biochemistry, histopathology were applied to observe the effect of uterus of histopathology (HE stain) and index, endocrine, blood lipid and the ability of Anti-oxygenation. We also compared preventive acupuncture withpreventive moxibustion through the experiment to proved into some mechanisms about restraint and resistance.Main result are as following:1. The uterus index in the ovariectomy rats came down and its uterus shrinked obviously (P<0. 01). HE stain indicated that the endo-membrane epidermis of the uterus proliferatedapparently. While cells, glands and vasculars of the inherent tissue reduced obviously and more fibre connective tissues arised. Both preventive moxibustion and preventive acupuncture could impove the condition of the endo-membrane, but preventive acupuncture could impove it excessively. However, the two methods did not have much effect on uterus index.2. E2 P and T concentration of serum decreased apparently (P<0. 05, P<0. 01, P<0. 01), while FSH and LH concentration of serum had a increasing trend (P>0.05 ) after ovariectomy. It indicates that the function of HPO axis had been disturbed.
