Coral ardisia root is the dry root ofArdisia crenata Sims, possessing a bitter, pungent and cool nature, It has the effect of heat-clearing and detoxicating, eliminating stasis to activate blood. Ardisiacrispin A and Ardisiacrispin B are the main triterpenoid saponins separated from A. crenata Sims. Five ftmges were screened that can transformate Ardisiacrispin A and Ardisiacrispin B, and two of them were chosen to accumulate, Eight transformation products were gained and seven of them were elucidated on the basis of chemical evidences and spectral analysis. The seven compounds are Cyclamiretin A-3β-O-{α-D-galactopyranosyl-(1â†'4)-[β-D- xylpyranosyl-(1â†'2)]-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â†'4)-[β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â†'2)]-α-L-arabinop-yranoside} (2)*, Cyclamiretin A-3β-O-{α-D-galactopyranosyl-(1â†'4)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â†'2)-[β-D-xylpyranosyl-(1â†'2)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â†'4)]-α-L-arabinopyranoside} (3)*, Cyclamiretin A-3β-O-{α-D-galactopyranosyl-(1â†'4)- [α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1â†'2)]-β-D-glu-copyranosyl-(1â†'4)-[β-D-glucopyranosyl-(12)]-α-L-arabinopyranoside} (4)*, Cyclamiretin A-3β-O-{α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1â†'2)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â†'4)-[β-D-gluopyranosyl-(1â†'2)]-[α-D-galactopyranosyl-(1â†'3)]-α-L-arabinopyranoside} (5)*, Cyclamiretin A-3β-O-{β-D-xylpyranosyl-(1â†'2)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â†'4)-[β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â†'2)]-[α-D-galactop-yranosyl-(1â†'3)]-α-L-arabinopyranoside} (6)*, Cyclamiretin A-3β-O-[β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1â†'2)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â†'4)-α-L-arabinopyranoside] (7), Cyclamiretin A-3β-O-[α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1â†'2)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â†'4)-α-L-arabinopyranoside] (8), respectively. Compounds 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 are new biotransformation products except 7 and 8. Among the fungus that can transformate Ardisiacrispin A and Ardisiacrispin B, Aspergillus avenaceus(AA 3.4454) can add aα-D-galactose to the glucoside of Ardisiacrispin A and Ardisiacrispin B electively, and the fungus of Alternaria longipes(AL 3.2875) can hydrolyze a glucose from the terminal of Ardisiacrispin A and Ardisiacrispin B. MTT method was used to test the cytotoxic activity of compounds 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 on MCF-7 and Hela cancer cell lines. The results of cytotoxicity shows, they all had a certain activity of inducing apoptosis.
