Ginseng Leaf Chemical Composition

Ginseng is a perennial herbal plant belonging to the Aralaceae family,which mainly distributes in the Northeast of China.Ginseng was used to treat various diseases,such as psychiatric, neurologic,diabetes,and so on.Some references reported that the dammarane-type triterpene oligoglycosides isolated from Panax ginseng such as Rg₃,Rh₂ showed anti-cancer, anti-arrhythmia and inhibitory activities.In order to find much more new active agents from this plant,and enlarge its natural resource for utility,the further study on the chemical constituents of its leaves was carried out.By means of silica gel columns and ODS gel columns,fourteen compounds were obtained, and their structures were identified as 20(R)-protopanaxatriol(Ⅰ),20(R)-Rh₂(Ⅱ),daucosteol(Ⅲ),β-sitosterol(Ⅳ),20(R)-ginsenoside Rh₁(Ⅴ),docosanoic(Ⅵ),20(S)-ginsenoside Rh₁(Ⅶ),20(R)-ginsenoside Rg₃(Ⅷ),3-O-β-D-(6-acetyl)glucoside,3β,12β-12.20-dihydroxydammar-24-en(Ⅸ), 20(S)-ginsenoside Rg₃(Ⅹ),20(R)-dammaran-3β,6α,12β,20,25pentol(Ⅺ), 20(S)-Rh₂(Ⅻ),20(R),22(ξ).24(S)-dammar-25(26)-ene-3β,6α,12β,20,22,24-hexanol(ⅩⅢ), 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyloxy,dammarane-12,20-diol,(ⅩⅣ)respectively by their spectral messages.Among these compounds,compoundⅨwas a new natural product,and compoundⅩⅢwas a new compound.The result will supply the materal best for its further study or chemistry and the deep exploitation,at the same time,also for its herbal resource being enlarged.
