Fructus Arctii is the dried ripe fruit of Arctium Lappa Linne (Compositae) and is commonly used traditional Chine se drug.6 compounds were isolated from the extracts of Fructus Arctii by column chromatographies over silica gel, ODS and HPLC and characterized to be Arctiin, Arctigenin, Matairesinol, Lappaol A,β-Sitosterol, Daucosterol. Arctiin and Arctigenin were isolated in large scale for supply of authentic samples to China's pharmacopoeia. The lignan extraction method from Fructus Arctii were studied by exploring extraction solvent and its volume and times, the optimal procedure for the extraction was established and also the content determination of arctiin and arctigenin by HPLC in the extract of Fructus arctii was examined. The arctigenin preparation procedure was researched by acidic hydrolysis, the preparation method of arctigenin was established by way of orthogonal experimental design. The inhibition effects onα-glucosidase and auti-bacterial action of arctigenin were studied. Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli were selected in the anti-bacterial test, arctigenin showed effective anti-bacterial action with 20mg/ml of MIC.
