Psychosomatic diseases(also known as psychophysiological diseases or psychosomatic disorders in some psychology textbooks)was defined as physical Organic diseases and functional disorders which are most due to psychosocial factors.Psychosomatic medicine is the special subjects in order to prevent and treat psychosomatic diseases.With the transformation of medical model,psychosomatic diseases were gradually emphasized and have become an important part of modern medicine.There are a lot of same places between theories of psychosomatic diseases(such as the relationship of psychology and physiology) and TCM(such as "combination of shape and soul", "correspondence between human and universe","union of mind and body" etc).So there are advantages and features to prevent and treat psychosomatic diseases through syndrome differentiation and concept of wholism in TCM..My mentor Professor Zhao Zhifu who had research psychosomatic medicine of TCM for several years and had accumulated extensive experience in this field put forward the theories of psychosomatic medicine of TCM--Rigid-Gental Differentiation.There are two classes, four items,sixteen families in differentiation of syndromes according to the Rigid-Gental theory.The paper describes Rigid-Gental Differentiation through some typical cases.And the following characteristics of Rigid-Gental theory have been concluded:①Psychosomatic diseases closely relate to the personalities and emotions of patients,and liver is related to the emotions according to the theories of TCM.So psychosomatic diseases in TCM are mainly about liver.②Treatment for psychosomatic diseases can be divided into two separate categories according to Rigid-Gental theory.The therapeutic principle of 'Rigid-syndrome' is softening liver,and the therapeutic principle of 'Flexible-syndrome' is dispersing liver.③Psychological treatment is advocated besides drug therapy.④The same treatment for the different disease.
