Objective: To probe into the influence of electro-acupuncture and musk injection on functional rehabilitation of wounded sciatic nerve of Sunderlandâ…£in rats, and to provide experimental proof, that electro-acupuncture and musk injection promote the regeneration of injured peripheral nerve, for clinic.Methods: Sunderlandâ…£wounded sciatic nerve model of 96 clean male SD rats were prepared by ring clamp, then randomly divided them into 4 groups: Group A (model group treated with 0.9% salt solution) , Group B (treated with electro-acupuncture), Group C (treated with musk injection), Group D (treated with electro-acupuncture and musk injection), and there are 24 rats each group. Group A: inject 0.05ml 0.9% salt solution into suturation opening near the proximum of nerve trunk with microinjector since the fourth day after the model was done ,fixing rats in prone position on the fixation tool, repeat the treatment everyday till the whole experiment was finished ; Group B: enter 5mm of HuaTuo facial needles in GB30 and GB34, link the negative pole of WQ-10C electric needle apparatus with the needle inserted in GB34 while the positive pole to GB34, then open the power and adjust the parameter of electric needle apparatus (two-way regular electric pulse 2Hz, 0.5ms, 2mA ), treat for 20 minutes since the fourth day after the model was done , fixing rats as Group A, repeat the treatment everyday till the whole experiment was finished; Group C: inject 0.05ml musk parenteral solution into suturation opening near the proximum of nerve trunk with microinjector since the fourth day after the model was done , fixing method like Group A, repeat the treatment everyday till the whole experiment was finished ; Group D: inject 0.05ml musk parenteral solution first as Group C, then add electric needle therapy as Group B. At the 4th, the 8th and the 12th week of respective treatment, 8 rats of each group were randomly selected for measurements of counts of their sciatic functional index(SFI), motor nerve conduction velocities(MNCV) and as well as the throughput rate of myelinated nerve fibers , to elucidate the restoration of the wounded nerve.Results: The situations of MNCV,SFI and the throughput rate of myelinated nerve fibers,after the same time of treatment, in the electro-acupuncture group,the musk injection group as well as the electro-acupuncture and musk injection group were better than those in the model group(P<0.05),the differences were significant. And results at the same time in the electro-acupuncture and musk injection group were better than those in the electro-acupuncture group or musk injection group (P<0.05), the differences were significant.Conclusion: Both electro-acupuncture therapy and musk injection can promote functional recovery of wounded nerve and they work in coordination with each other. It's an effective method for promoting functional recovery of the wounded peripheral nerve.
