Objective: To observe the clinical effect of shenmaixianxiong decoction on unstable angina pectoris (syndromes of deficiency of both qi and yin and coagulation of phlegm and blood stasis). Methods : 60 patients with unstable angina pectoris were randomly divided into two groups. 30 patients in control group were given routine treatment of western medicine; 30 patients in treatment groups were cured with shenmaixianxiong decoction additionally the decoctions were given two times a day, with a treatment course of 30 days in the two groups. The therapeutic effects were observed after 2 courses for both groups. Evaluations were provided separately on the curative effects of angina pectoris , electrocardiogram(ECG) , syndrome and the amount of nitroglycerin , blood lipid changes , the changes of c-reactive protein level,, and adverse reaction in these two groups.Result: (1) The total effective rate of angina pectoris and ECG in treatment group were 90.0% and 90.0% respectively, control group were 63.3% and 73.3% respectiverly. There were significant differences between the two groups ( P < 0.01) was significantly higher than that of control groups (81.3 % , P < 0. 01) . (2 )The dosage of nitroglycerin was decreased (P < 0.05, P < 0.01) in two groups after treatment. There was a significant difference between the treatment group and the control group ( P < 0.01) . (3) There was a significant difference in restoring defective nerve function between the treatment group and the control group. After treatment of one course, the TC,TG,HDL-C,LDL-C and CRP were significant differences between model and control groups (P < 0.01) .Conclusion : The study abundanced the research of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatment on unstable angina pectoris, and affirmed the clinical effect of shenmaixianxiong decoction on on unstable angina pectoris (syndromes of deficiency of both qi and yin and coagulation of phlegm and blood stasis), which provided a good foundation for further studying.
