China-rok Diplomatic Instruments Of Functional Stylistics Contrast

From the introduction of theories to innovation and application of theories, functional stylistics has undergone rapid development in China during the past decades. However, research and application of stylistics in Korea mainly focus on literature criticism and structural stylistics while functional stylistics lags behind. In recent years, stylistic analysis of literary works flourishes in China and some scholars bring forward the idea of contrastive research between different languages or different styles. The present thesis discusses ways of realizing the same stylistic function in Chinese and Korean.Diplomatic documents are written in two languages. There is no priority issue between the original documents and the translated documents, nor is there the influence of different styles. These characteristics make diplomatic documents ideal materials for contrast and comparison between different languages. Yet until now, there is not any contrastive research on diplomatic documents due to the limited amount of materials. Therefore, the author of the present thesis decides to explore the differences and similarities in Chinese and Korean expressions when fulfilling the same stylistic function.The present thesis explores differences and similarities in Chinese and Korean expressions from lexical, grammatical as well as discourse perspective and adopts theories of functional stylistics and methodology of comparative linguistics. The materials involved come from diplomatic documents.The present thesis consists of three parts. The introductory part concentrates on purpose, theoretical basis and methodology of the research as well as current condition of related research. The body part includes contrastive analysis about some representative characteristics from lexical, grammatical and discourse perspective. The conclusion part summarizes the results of research.
