With the fast socioeconomic development, the mental health of minority undergraduate students in poverty has been given great attention by various circles of society. In order to gain a deep understanding of the mental health (including anxiety, inferiority, depress, interpersonal relationship sensitivity) of minority undergraduate students in poverty and its influencing factors, in this study, I designed and conducted a student questionnaire survey and a counselor questionnaire survey on 697 undergraduate students and 17 counselors, respectively, from a randomly selected sample of 17 classes from Guizhou University for Nationalities.According to ANOVA (analysis of variance) results, in Guizhou University for Nationalities, the minority undergraduate students in poverty are mentally healthier than their peers of Han nationality. The influencing factors of the mental health of minority undergraduate students in poverty, including relationship between student and counselor, student's family economics status, student's major and gender, are the same as those of all undergraduate students. Undergraduate student are more likely to be mentally healthier in the following scenarios: 1) if they believe their relationship with counselors are more like friends, as compared to disciplinarians and parents, while the latter is the worst scenario to student's mental health; 2) if their tuition and living-expense are paid by parents but not others; 3) if they major in science rather than liberal arts; and 4) if they are male but not female. At the mean time, counselors indicated that they paid more attention on students in poverty, with minority nationalities and not in a leadership position. Based on the association study between two questionnaire surveys, it is feasible for counselors to show more care for students in poverty, but not for those who are minorities and who are not student leaders.Based on my analysis results, for the purpose of promoting the development of the mental health of minority undergraduate students in poverty, we should make great effort in the following aspects: 1) spiritually valuing and physically support mental health education across the campus; 2) emphasizing the diversities among various student groups and tailoring mental health education plan to each individual's needs; 3) creating a campus culture of equality and nondiscrimination, and proposing communication among students with different nationalities; 4) reinforcing the training and management of counselors of quality.
