The Silk Road was once the biggest and earliest main international trade road in the world history. The Han Dynasty and ancient Rome were respectively the most powerful eastern and western countries in between the 1st and 2nd century in the world. Ancient Rome consumed most of the silk in the world. It was related to China, in which silk was made. But the trade between Rome and China was cut off by Parthians. For their own benefits, ancient Rome explored the way to the East along the Silk Road, which promoted the economical and cultural exchanges between the East and the West.In this paper, ancient Rome being a start, the Silk Road being a platform, the author discusses the eastwards exploration that ancient Rome ever did. It helps us to understand the exchanges between ancient Rome and oriental more deeply.Thus it helps us to understand the civilization exchanges and interaction between the East and the West.There are four chapters in this paper. It includes the background and conditions of ancient Rome to explore eastwards, the Roman exploration and the Silk Road, the economical and cultural exchanges between ancient Rome and the Orient, the impact of the Silk Road on ancient Rome society. It discusses and studies the Roman exploration to the East.In the first chapter, the background and conditions of ancient Roman to explore eastwards are described respectively in social economic conditions of the eastern empire and the Roman Empire.In the second chapter, the exploration of ancient Rome to the East and the Silk Road are described respectively by the East in ancient Romans'eyes, as well as the war between the Roman Empire and the Orient, the exploration of ancient Rome to the East.In the third chapter, the economical and cultural exchanges between Rome and the Orient are respectively dealt with.In the fourth chapter, the impact of the Silk Road on ancient Roman society is discussed respectively from the perspectives of economy, politics and culture.In the epilogue, the meaning of the civilization interaction on the Silk Road to the East explored by ancient Rome is summarized.
